Synthesis and Characterization of Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag Nanocomposite Beads for Catalytic Degradation of Direct Red Dye

Increased water pollution due to the tremendous increase of dye-containing effluent is still a serious problem which, in turn, adversely affects aquatic life and, consequently, balance our ecosystem. The aim this research was investigate whether Ca-ALG/MgO/Ag nanocomposite beads successfully prepared from calcium alginate hydrogels with MgO (Ca-ALG/MgO) doped Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) caused effective degradation Direct Red 83 dye. formation confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and Energy Dispersive Analysis (EDX). results EDX analysis proved that both within network were present. This study also examines effects various operating parameters, such as reducing agent, time reaction, concentration dye solution, catalyst dosage, which examined studied carefully find optimum conditions. kinetics isothermal revealed process using presence sodium borohydride (NaBH4) agent best fit for pseudo-first-order model Temkin isotherm model. indicated dosage 0.3 g 50 mg/L, equilibrium attained at 340 min. Accordingly, it could be stated catalyst, beads, considered efficient efficiency reached 95% approximately. Furthermore, after four runs reuse, exhibited excellent performance long-term stability.
